BRITAIN IN BLOOM AND
SOUTH AND SOUTH EAST IN BLOOM COMPETITIONS 2011
Gold and Category Winner - Double Whammy!
At
the Britain in Bloom Annual Awards Ceremony on 25 September
2011 in St Andrews, Scotland,
Rustington was presented with not only a Gold Award for its entry in
the Competition, but also the overall Town Category Winner Award in
this prestigious National Competition. Rustington was also
announced as the runner-up in the Special Environmental Quality
Award, narrowly missing out to Derry City in Ulster.
Comments from the Judges included:
“From the minute you enter this large, yet close-knit community, you know you are entering somewhere very special”
“No stone is left unturned in the passion for providing something the area can be justifiably proud of”
“Britain in Bloom judges often see the best of British horticulture, but nothing can compare with Rustington, a real gem and worthy Gold medal and Category Winner in the 2011 UK Finals”.
At
the Annual Awards Ceremony for the South and South East in Bloom
Competition held at Fontwell Park on 7 September 2011, Rustington
received yet another fantastic set of results, being presented with
not only a Gold Award in the Town Category, but also the Category's
Overall Winner Award. The Woodlands Recreation Ground was also
presented with a Gold Award and the Overall Winner Award in the Park
of the Year Category.
In addition, Rustington was presented with the Judges’ Special Floral Display Discretionary Award, and the Outstanding Contribution Award was presented to David Luscombe of Ferring Nurseries. In the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ Category, the local community groups really excelled, with the Herne Gardens and Orchard Gardens Garage Compound and Oakhurst Gardens receiving ‘Thriving’ Awards and Rustington Methodist Church Gardens and The Chaucery Memorial receiving ‘Outstanding’ Awards. One of the Rustington Primary Schools again shone in the School Grounds Competition, namely Georgian Gardens, winning a Gold Award.
What a great achievement! The Village has attained an even higher level of success than that accomplished in the 2010 Competition. The community really did pull together this year to ensure that all the boxes were ticked in the right places, and in recognition of this Certificates of Excellence were awarded to in excess of twenty different Groups, Clubs, Organisations and Individuals for their most important contributions towards the success of the Rustington entry.
The Members of the Rustington-in-Bloom Committee, in partnership with the Parish Council, organised the 2011 Campaign and were most grateful for the support of the Arun District Council Cleansing and Parks Department, West Sussex County Council Highways Department, together with individual Officers from the District Council.
Special thanks and appreciation must go to Ferring Nurseries, without whose outstanding service, expertise and dedication, this remarkable success would, as has been the case in previous years, most certainly not have been attained.
